Can you imagine how not having any electricity would damage your business, communication, relationships and even your dinner?

Living without electricity is a common reality for many people living in Tamil Nadu and especially where SCAD is located on the ground. In the last six months there has been 6-10 hours of power cuts per day.  This impacts lives in a very damaging way; businesses cannot operate and loose money, children cannot study at home in the evening because there is no light, exhausted women rush through their chores at pre-dawn hours and any special occasion needs a generator to run smoothly.

It is very difficult for us to imagine this in the West because we turn a switch and a light turns on, we plug our computers in and we have charge, we turn the tap and water comes out. However for these basic services in rural areas of India people can spend hours on a crowded bus, cycling for miles or walking for hours or they just have to do without. So I want to encourage you to spend 5 mins today recognising the value of electricity and water and to think about all the things that you do that you wouldn’t be able to do without these basic services.
